About Us

In October 2007, The NCBE Board of Directors determined that it was time to establish a Green Building Program for our membership and the construction industry in general. The NCBE Board appointed a Green Building Coordinator and put a call out in the Building News for volunteers for the Green Building Committee. Within two weeks the committee was filled with a cross section of members from construction to suppliers to other professionals (i.e. lawyer, insurance). At the first meeting in November 2007, a Mission Statement and Action Plan for 2007-2008 were established.

The Committee established several priorities:
1) The first priority was to join Build It Green and US Green Building Council, two major entities in the green building arena.
2) Next, it was to bring Green Building related seminars to our membership, these seminars will be an ongoing addition to our current offering of other construction and business related seminars.

Other priorities for this start-up program include:
1) Stocking our existing library with Green Building reference materials
2) Creating a special section in the Building News to run every two weeks called Shades of Green. This section will highlight green building information, resources, seminars, project spotlights, etc.
3) Revising our NCBE Online website to include a green building tab
4) Determining a screening process and creating a Green Building Membership Directory to be both online and in the Annual Membership Directory
5) Creating a Green Resource Center for our membership
6) Being involved politically, so that the builder has some input in the city/county green building programs that are emerging all over Califorina, specifically, Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino Counties.

NCBE seminars and workshops on various topics relating to the construction industry are held throughout the year on topics such as Lien Law, Business Management, Cal/OSHA, and more.
