PG&E – Advanced Wood Framing, Plus Walls from Straw Bale, Hempcrete and Earth

Friday, October 26 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Civil Engineer Bruce King will cover two different approaches to building structure and enclosures. First he will discuss how advanced wood framing, the most common construction approach to residential enclosures in most of North America, can improve energy performance while carrying structural building loads with less material. He will describe the strategy of optimum value engineering, and show and discuss specific details. Bruce will depict tradeoffs such as increased design work for lower construction cost, or energy efficiency vs. long term durability. In part two, Bruce will describe other enclosure methods such as straw bale, hempcrete and earthen walls, which have all been employed on numerous buildings in California
