Ask to see the Contractor's "pocket license" (A credit-card-looking license issued by CSLB).
In the Contractor's office, ask to see the license wall certificate issued by CSLB. Call the nearest CSLB office and inquire directly (Or you may call the CSLB Sacramento office at 916-366-5153 or use CSLB's 'Toll-Free' Number: 1-800-321-CSLB).
California law requires that anyone who contracts to do a property improvement project valued at $500 or more must be properly licensed by the Contractors State License Board (CSLB).
